The Baccara watch offers the wearer a chance at craps with a pair of deli- cately crafted dice (in a cage at four o'clock) that roll with a shake of the wrist. On the back of the watch, the rotor serves as a roulette wheel (with an arrow that indicates the winning number). Inspired by the Chinese belief in lucky objects and symbols, Claret sought to incorporate this culture into the watch. As such, Baccara features a spe- cially developed sapphire crystal that, when blown on, reveals a hidden Chinese talisman. This ideogram was developed for Claret through a metalli- zation process of the crystal, an idea Claret conceived of when he witnessed how superstitious players in Macau were. "They all have their lucky talismans with them, or have gestures they do before they play," says Claret, noting that he wanted to make the watch a symbol of luck as well as a game. Each dial features either a laser-cut jade or black-silhouetted dragon or tiger (between the two sets of card windows). Both creatures are renowned symbols of strength and luck, and watch own- ers have the option of adjusting their own lucky number on an emerald set in the caseback of the watch. The Baccara is built in a 45mm case and is available in three versions, each of which will only be produced in a limited edition of nine pieces. The versions, all made with grade-five black PVD titanium, include white gold ($208,800), rose gold ($200,000), and platinum ($239,500).
