CONTRIBUTORS 3 1 5 2 4 1. Max Jacobson, a food and wine journalist for more than 25 years, writes Wynn's Food for Thought column each issue. After 16 years with the Los Angeles Times, he made the move to Vegas in 2000, just in time to witness the influx of star chefs. Jacobson's work has appeared in Vegas, Las Vegas Life, and Las Vegas Weekly. He speaks Japanese, Finnish, French, Italian, and Cantonese, and is known to be an expert on Asian food. Having traveled to more than 90 countries, his take on ethnic foods tends to favor authen- ticity. He lives in Las Vegas with his wife, Setu. He can be heard on KNPR every other Friday, with co-host John Curtas; the topic, of course, is food. 2. New York City-based writer Amy Elliott attributes her knowledge of and passion for fine jewelry to having spent more than 12 years as an editor at various wedding magazines and websites. "The designers and industry executives I've gotten to know throughout my career will attest to the fact that I geek out over the sight of truly gorgeous gems," she says. While genuinely dazzled by jumbo-sized yellow diamonds, rough-cut sapphires, and glistening geodes, she's also a fan of designers—like the three she profiles in this issue—who create pieces that incorporate these stones in unique ways. Elliott is a frequent contributor to Wynn as well as other Niche titles, including Gotham and Hamptons. She's the senior editor of special sections at Lucky magazine and the author of several books, including A Warm Welcome, a guide to entertaining houseguests. 3. As food and beverage public relations manager at Wynn Las Vegas and Encore, Rosie Abrams oversees publicity efforts for the resort's casual and fine-dining outlets and their respective culinary teams. Growing up with a mother who is a chef, Abrams developed a passion for food at an early age. "I truly believe I have the best job here at Wynn Las Vegas," she says. "I am 18 WYNN lucky enough that I get to do all of my favorite things: eat delicious food, dine and entertain at fabulous restaurants, and learn from extraordinarily talented chefs." Prior to joining the team at Wynn, Abrams was a senior account exec- utive at a Las Vegas-based public relations agency where she worked with a variety of food and beverage, non-profit, and entertainment clients. 4. Photographer Chris Stein has been shooting still lifes since he graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1997. For this issue of Wynn, he shot two gorgeous jewelry features and six stunning pages of watches. His clients include David Yurman, Nautica, Timex, and Budweiser. He lives and works in a custom-built penthouse condo with his agent-wife, Alex; their two sons, Otto, 7, and Hugo, 5; and a new Siberian husky puppy. In his spare time, Stein enjoys his BMW K1200 motorcycle and Gibson guitar, and spends time landscaping his family home's two roof-decks. His next step? Adding a third. 5. Recovering attorney Catherine De Orio writes articles relating to food, travel, and lifestyle for such publications as In Touch Weekly, Vegas, Star, and Us Weekly. She has made more than 600 television appearances, including Today on NBC and The Rachael Ray Show, and done 250 radio shows, including Martha Stewart Radio. This summer she will launch culinarycurator.com, a portal to all things culinary, and glamourgrub.com, a how-to site for creating fabulous fêtes. For this issue, De Orio penned behind-the-scenes articles on Wynn's In-Room Dining and Buffet teams. "The Wynn Buffet provided a gastronomic feast, as well as a visual one," she raves. "The sweetshop-like confection area set off from the rest of the buffet made me feel like a kid in a candy shop; I wanted to eat every last glossy candy apple on offer. Wynn never fails to dazzle." n PHOTOGRAPHY BY ALEX KARVOUNIS (ABRAMS); OTTO STEIN (STEIN)
