Ladies in red shoes perform a synchronized tango— upside down, underwater. Somehow, a tree emerges from a ring of fire in the middle of a pool, strong-but-lithe creatures performing gymnastic feats from its branches. It feels as though these beautiful, breathtaking moments defy reality—which is, of course, the idea behind director Franco Dragone's fantastical production Le Rêve (translation: "The Dream"). Comprised of more than 90 performers, the 75-minute show transports audiences into the realm of imagination with visually arresting acrobatics, dance performances, and aquatic stunts on a stage that boasts a 26-foot-deep pool. Since opening in 2005, the production has evolved with new numbers added and costumes changing regularly. "We continue to improve the show and make it a unique, different experience for our audiences as they return over the years," says Rick Gray, Wynn's general manager of entertainment opera- tions. "We're not set in stone. We continue to make new dreams, so to speak." As Sharon Todaro, head of wardrobe on Le Rêve, explains, "There's been a great infu- sion of color and detail that wasn't there before." One of the most striking examples is the recurring use of red, "the color of the dream world," as Gray puts it. "It's a color people respond to immediately, and it's bold and bright." And it's highly symbolic, taking on various meanings throughout the show. In "Redmen" (RIGHT), for example, the men's bare chests and billowing crimson skirts "are about virility and strength," notes Todaro.
