RED CHANDELIER, ENCORE ENTRY "The red in the chandelier at the entry of Encore is glass made in Murano, Italy. Venice held the secret to glass making, but they were rightly afraid of burning down the city because of the furnaces, so in 1291, they moved them all to the island of Murano. Hence, Venetian glass is actually made in Murano. They combine clear glass with a secret chemical, and add powdered 24k gold into the glass. Then by heating the glass to a specific tem- perature, cooling it slightly, and then reheating it, it turns this magnificent Rubino red—rubino meaning "red" in Italian. It's the only way you get that orange red. All other reds are purple-y pink, but to get that orange red, you have to use 24k gold." WYNN 71
