DRESSED to THRILL From high-wattage holidays to a sultry Saturday night, Steve Wynn talks about what it takes to create parties that are posh, plentiful, and oh so memorable. Rather, Wynn possesses almost a reverence for the midnight-centric holiday and what it represents in Las Vegas, a city that is driven in no small part by its singular ability, 365 days a year, to put visitors in a celebratory frame of mind. "How many countries do you think are represented in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve?" Wynn asks, and at once we are determined to discover the number, starting with a rundown of those nations that most easily spring to mind—Japan, China, Singapore, Italy, Germany, the United Arab Emirates—before a call is placed to garner an accurate statistic: From December 25, 2011, until January 1, 2012, Wynn and Encore hosted guests from 85 countries around the globe. Not surprisingly, Wynn is unfazed by the answer. "There is no city on the planet that experiences the greatest single confluence of cultures on one evening than that which you'll find in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve," he says.
