STEVE WYNN "To us, it's about providing an experience you can't get anywhere else in the world." —Steve Wynn country, no city or group of cities will shine brighter or come close to the experience that will be enjoyed by the 300,000 partygoers we'll have in Las Vegas on that one night. And every single one of them is here for one reason: to tear it up." That attitude has changed little since Bugsy Siegel debuted the Flamingo on December 26, 1946, and forever changed both the landscape and tone of the once-dusty desert town—Wynn, who's been a Las Vegas resident since the late-'60s, has witnessed the evolution of the city's party scene firsthand. "That role this city has fulfilled has been heightened, enhanced, and redoubled many times over the decades," he says. "Between nightclubs and showrooms and private parties and special events, the holiday season in Las Vegas represents an investment of hundreds of millions of dollars literally over the span of just two or three nights. There's no place else on the planet where the amount of capital is dedicated to the concept of a party, a full-on entertainment experience on an order and magnitude comparable to what we produce in Las Vegas over the holiday season." From Christmas through the Chinese New Year, a 15-day celebration that this year kicks off on February 10, the vibe at Wynn and Encore might indeed take on the sense of a nonstop party, with seemingly endless celebrations planned, each imbued with a distinct viewpoint. Chinese New Year, for example, while no less boisterous than December 31, explores the respect and traditions of the holiday as celebrated in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China, says Wynn President Marilyn Spiegel. "I don't liken the Chinese New Year gala to our New Year's Eve celebration as much as I do to the familial feeling of Thanksgiving," she says, adding that Linda Chen, the COO of Wynn Macau, is the architect of the Las Vegas resort's Chinese New Year celebration. "It's about friends and family 24 here: Steve and Andrea Wynn. above: The temptation that awaits at Surrender. coming together, everyone very dressed up and enjoying the traditions of the evening, from the eight-course meal to the interaction of the elder members of the family with the younger generation, the awarding of the red envelopes, and the prize giveaways, which this year promise to be very special. We put the spotlight on wishing our guests health, happiness, and prosperity for the coming year, and each one of us gets involved. Next to WYNN W_FOB_SteveWynn_Winter 13.indd 24 12/13/12 2:52 PM
