STYLE FILE A look from Etro's Spring/Summer 2012 collection DIAMANTE: A GUY'S BEST FRIEND Gucci debuts luggage both posh and practical. At a recent preview of Gucci's Fall collection, one item in particular had every editor, male and female alike, salivating: Diamante Plus, the label's latest men's luggage collection, which just arrived in stores. Crafted using Gucci's iconic Diamante pattern, these leather-trimmed, so-suitable suitcases are the first from a luxury brand to feature four wheels—that's undoubtedly part of the "Plus," though we'd be hard-pressed to pinpoint any minuses. Before you try to conjure a mental image of the King in a buttoned-up suit, consider that the classic British tailoring received an injection of hip quotient courtesy of the Teddy Boy culture of the 1950s. Inspired by their grandparents' Edwardian mode of dress (a style their par- ents rebelled against), Teddy Boys favored slimmed-down silhouettes and fine English suiting fabrics. Though it started as a rejection of conservative 1950s culture, the Teddy phenomenon grew internationally to influence American rockabilly and is still seen in fashion references today. Indeed, several designers employed Teddy Boys as inspiration for their Spring/ Summer 2012 collections. Moschino's pastels allude to Las Vegas's golden era of the 1950s, while the slim suiting in collections ranging from Gucci to Etro acts as a subtler take on the trend, still a statement-maker, yet polished LACOSTE'S LATEST SCENT WILL HAVE YOU BETTING ON RED. AN AROMATIC SWATH of cardamom, mandarin liquor, and Madagascan black pepper—Rouge, the fourth scent in Lacoste's L.12.12 collection, is the most seductive of the set. Like the three before it (Vert, Bleu, and Blanc), Rouge takes its inspira- tion from René Lacoste's most enduring legacy: the polo shirt, created by the French designer in 1926. Eau de Lacoste L.12.12 Rouge is housed in a bold crimson bottle that's an identical color to the brand's original red polo and features a puckered edging as a nod to the petit piqué fabric that's still used in the shirts today.
