Wynn's Rolex boutique is one of only two stores in the world to include a Rolex Experience, a museumlike display of brand history and significant pieces from the archives. PHOTOGRAPHY BY BARBARA KRAFT I f every Rolex is, as the brand says, a "symphony of know-how and artistry," then it only makes sense that the Rolex boutique at Wynn's Esplanade should be designed in that same spirit. Each element should complement the products while contributing to the composition as a whole. Rolex is, after all, the chosen timepiece of Marlon Brando, James Cameron, Roger Federer, and Sophia Loren. Sir Edmund Hillary wore one to the summit of Mount Everest. Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King, and Dwight Eisenhower owned Rolexes, as do executive vice president of design for Wynn Design and Development Roger Thomas and Hedy Woodrow, Wynn Resorts' vice president of retail. Thomas received his first Rolex as a gift from his father when he was 16, and used the occasion of the Rolex boutique's newly expanded inventory to continue the tradition and find the perfect watch for his daughter. "I think it's wonderful," he says of the redesigned shop. "The selection is so vast, but the staff is so beautifully trained and informed that they know where every different varietal is, and I think that is key." After the two-and-a-half-month build-out was complete, the floor space for the new store was 1,400 square feet larger than its previous incarnation, but guests are finding more than a vast selection at Rolex's flagship location in the US: Wynn Las Vegas also houses a Rolex Experience, one of only two in the world. "When you venture into our Rolex store you really get the DNA of the brand," says Woodrow. "You've got the Rolex Experience, and one of the largest selections of Rolex timepieces in the world. It gives the guest an understanding of what Rolex is about, as well as its history—things that only enhance the shopping experience."
