A night under the stars on Wynn's Lake of Dreams, an experience that combines elements of color, theater, and the undeniable feeling of an oasis in the Las Vegas desert. C ameras seem to be forever trained in the direction of two wondrous moments at Wynn Las Vegas, a pair of views that never fails to garner the lion's share of guest attention. Anyone who has crossed the threshold of the main entrance easily can guess the first, as those topiary-bedecked atriums—two brief promenades of sun-splashed trees and flowers near Wynn's registration desk—have been captured in likely more than a million photos since the resort opened in April 2005. The other discovery that inspires the perpetual raising of smartphones to eye level is just a few yards away. "You know, Roger Thomas designed those parasols; sketched them out freehand while he was listening to Vivaldi," Steve Wynn notes of that second scene, a bouquet of brilliantly toned parasols that performs a measured, sublimely subtle ballet near the entrance to Wynn's Lake of Dreams. "You see that music when you look at them, don't you? They're colorful and imbued with a sense of joy, and that's Vivaldi." Wynn pauses, perhaps thinking of the 30-plus years he has spent conjuring up such quixotic moments with Thomas. "Roger excels at just that type of thing, at taking a feeling—a sense of joy or wonderment—and translating it into a design, a visual expression, one that just might take your breath away."
