You also find volunteers in every area—in the laundry, in the educational system, in the art department, in the restaurant, in the bakery, in the packaging—and every one of them gets a real sense of being part of the Misericordia family. We all know we're privileged to be here because every day we're making a difference, even if it's just taking a child's hand and making them know that they're loved. We're privileged people. Having a disabled child is not an easy calling, but I have witnessed over all these years how much more compassionate and loving these parents are because they've been called to this. I get so much joy just meeting the kids and knowing they're happy and that they're really being cared for. Some people go through their whole lives and at the end they have to ask themselves, "Is the world any more compassionate and loving because I walked this journey?"
