SHOP CHICAGO Brit Pop CHICAGO STYLE GETS A LIFT FROM OUR FRIENDS ACROSS THE POND. F FROM TOP: Morris & Sons stocks all things British; Kate Middleton, whose go-to designer L.K.Bennett is available on Michigan Avenue. "British style is so appealing as it is comfortable but looks smart and stylish." —BENJAMIN NEWBY RHYTHM NATION Burberry's rock-inspired scent launches a new British invasion. The influence of music on fashion is rocking the world of style this season—and now scent. Burberry has launched the label's first men's fragrance in more than five years. Called Burberry Brit Rhythm, it exudes the rich scent of rock-appropriate leather blended with notes of fresh basil and cedarwood to capture the electric experience of a live concert in one sleek bottle. 633 N. PHOTOGRAPHY BY GETTY IMAGES (MIDDLETON) rom Downton Abbey to the birth of England's new heir, Britain has certainly held court this year. Personally bringing British charm to Chicago is Benjamin Newby, the Welsh-born, British-raised mixologist whose dapper personal style seamlessly fuses England and the Windy City. "The [British] heritage style is so appealing as it is comfortable, but at the same time looks smart and stylish," he says. "The durability of the clothes—they were built for country living, after all—is high and means you get a lot of wear out of them." Fueling the buzz is Bloomingdale's (900 N. Michigan Ave., 312-440-4460; bloomingdales.com), which this fall features in-store shop-in-shops for beloved imports such as Burberry, Paul Smith, and Ted Baker, as well as exclusive partnerships with niche labels Farrell, Flying Horse Jeans, and Marwood. This fall's must-have items include a navy Turnbull & Asser blazer with "Abbey Road" lining, "Yellow Submarine" cuff links from Simon Carter, and Hardy Amies suits named after The Beatles. For womenswear, Anglomania can be summed up in two words: Kate Middleton, who, on her way to becoming the Duchess of Cambridge, charmed stylish women everywhere. L.K.Bennett (900 N. Michigan Ave., 312-3740958; lkbennett.com), Middleton's go-to designer for sophisticated dresses, debuts her first resort collection this month, which is filled with prints inspired by vintage London roses. The collection features classics like a white silk blouse and structured leather pencil skirt, complemented by her signature accessories in poppy colors. Amid the excitement for all things British is Chicago boutique Morris & Sons (557 W. Polk St., 312-243-5635; morrisandsons.com), which marked its 60th anniversary last year and specializes in hardto-find apparel from the UK, including Dunhill suits and handcrafted Edward Green shoes. Says owner Gary Rosenbaum, "There's an air of sophistication today among young men who practice the art of dressing well. Companies like Dunhill and John Lobb provide a long history of old-world craftsmanship and style that is iconic in the fashion world."
