T echnologically advanced apparel and accessories may be futuristic, but they haven't necessarily been fashionable—until now. Says Coco Meers, the on-the-go creator of Chicago-based beauty site prettyquick.com, "Incorporating fashion into our technology choices helps squeeze that much more out of our days." Case in point: Zegna Sport (645 N. Michigan Ave., 312-587-9660; zegna.com) has introduced fall items that have been specifically designed to fit into modern life. One of the season's standouts is the Icon jacket ($1,295), which features full wireless connectivity with a microphone and joystick controls integrated into the garment. Additional features of the weatherproof jacket include a removable quilted body warmer and body-shield lining to protect against electromagnetic waves (and harsh Chicago winds). Womenswear offers some equally advanced options, with accessories such as leather gloves ($265–$345) from DVF (Saks Fifth Avenue, 700 N. Michigan Ave., 312-944-6500; saks.com), replete with studded accents and nylon met allic-t hreaded smartphone touch capabilities so that gloves can stay on during cold city walks. Rebecca Minkoff (rebeccaminkoff.com) gets in on the tech game with an exclusively online Stellé Audio limited edition clutch ($399) that can open into a portable Hi-Fi speaker system, perfect for impromptu dance parties and travel, and Chicago's own Everpurse (Laudi Vidni, 1007 W. Armitage Ave., 773-697-7847; everpurse.com) debuts this holiday season with a clutch that charges a smartphone. Founders and Chicago residents Liz and Dan Salcedo created the clutches after realizing that sometimes women need a phone charge to last from morning meetings to evening events. Says Liz, "Everpurse is about combining fashion and tech, style, and power. We're changing the way women work and travel." MA Chicago's own Everpurse debuts a clutch that charges a smartphone.
