50  bostoncommon-magazine.com photography by brian samuels photography Katrina Jazayeri and Joshua Lewin ( below) build community with simple but sophisticated fare, such as this cassoulet and mixed greens with a classic tarte tatin. When Joshua Lewin and Katrina Jazayeri crossed paths, they bonded over a mutual passion for dinner— and breakfast, and lunch, and coffee... In short, they loved to eat and eat out, but neither had found a single place that served all their desires. So the two set forth to create Juliet, an upscale restaurant in Somerville's tony Union Square that's open morning until night. "A lot of the inspiration came from cafés in Europe that welcome their neighbors in for an aperitif or a full meal anytime of the day," says Jazayeri, 26. Complete with an open kitchen, counter service, and to-go options as well as full-service dining, Juliet tempts taste buds with a range of simple, elegant dishes like a vegan cauli- flower dinner and a tender lobster roll in a saffron bun with brown butter mayon- naise, with each dish on the menu "simply because we love them and want to share them," says Lewin, 31. The success of early pop-up dinners hosted by Lewin and Jazayeri's catering company, Bread & Salt Hospitality, inspired the couple to invest in a perma- nent space, and so far, love seems to be in the air at sleek, white-walled Juliet. That's a good thing, since Jazayeri and Lewin are not only feeding their customers—they are living amongst them. "We happen to be residents here [in Somerville]," says Lewin. "We're very much a part of the neighborhood already." 257 Washington St., Somerville, 617-781-0958; julietsomerville.com . …through yonder window breaks? juliet, somerville's newest star, shines bright.
