opposite page: Light in the lighthouse: Every room in "The Tower" is awash in natural light. clockwise from left: The kitchen features modern amenities and, like the rest of the house, a classic nautical look; the views stretch from the New Hampshire mountains all the way to Provincetown; Brian and Sherry Kelly enjoy the 360-degree vistas from the ninth-floor deck. the vertical yacht," says Sherry. The description is not so far-off. Thanks to Siemasko + Verbridge architects, as well as the Kellys' precise direc- tion, every square inch of the finishes and furnishings are indeed meant to evoke the feeling and function of a luxury sailing vessel. Custom built-in leather sofas, two-tone mahogany and maple wood coverings, and nautical blue and white upholstery all work to create a high-life-on-the-seas experience. Specialty artifacts and lighting from Boston's Lannan Ship Model Gallery; marine pillows from Kennebunk's Hurlbutt Designs; and rich, sturdy carpeting from Salem's Landry & Arcari drive home the aesthetic. From the second floor living room to a lush, third floor master bedroom, the spa-like bathrooms, rooms of bunkbeds, powder rooms, and one-of-a-kind "Indian Princess" bar area, says Sherry, "It was a labor of love." Adds Brian, "You cannot imagine the details involved." On a clear day especially, it feels more than worth it, when the ninth floor wrap- around observation deck becomes simply irresistible. "You can see all the way to Provincetown, the moun- tains in New Hampshire, the coast of Gloucester, and the buildings in Boston," says Brian. And if you make it to the 11th floor? "We give you a flute of Champagne!" says Sherry, though it's not clear if the chandelier-embel- lished space was named the Champagne Room after this practice or the other way around. "We come here and immediately feel like we're on vacation," says Brian of their standout home. Sherry could not agree more. "We found the crown jewel in Manchester." . bostoncommon-magazine.com  125
