What's not to love? Tykes as young as 8 years old can learn how to beat-match at DJ camp. Those looking to be the musical life of the party can sign up for DJ101. And those after a full-blown career can get certified in a master program with classes on music theory, sound design, tempo, and pitch. The best part? The only homework assignments are listening to music. According to Alex Maniatis, Mmmmaven's managing director, the school helps Bostonians get in touch with their musical heritage. "Boston has a real deep history with dance music and electronic music," says the former nightclub promoter ("The hours were horrible") turned DJ guru. "The reason for opening Mmmmaven is just to educate people." "DJing is like this generation's greatest electric guitar. It's like the Fender Stratocaster," adds Maniatis.
