Ask Boston-based interior designer Eric Haydel, whose collabora- tion with Dover Rug & Home, titled Carnival, is all the rage in rugs this season. The designs, which include the beaded Masquerade, striped Second Line, and abstract Streetcar, were inspired by Haydel's vibrant childhood in Louisiana and the Southern textile tradition of bold patters and pops of color—perfect for spring. "As designers, our life experiences are the inspiration for what we create," says Haydel, 31, the current president of the New England chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers. That sense of fun and whimsy runs through every thread of the 8x10-foot and 9x12-foot hand-knotted silk and wool rugs (different sizes available upon request). Haydel knew from the moment he began working with Dover Rug's owner, Mahmud Jafri, and his son Hasan that the relationship was a good fit.
