FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Sharing a laugh with Fox Chicago early- morning coanchor Kori Chambers at the Tickled Pink fundraiser. Someone told me once that it seems like the pages of this magazine are full of my friends. Guilty as charged—as a lifelong Chicagoan and a longtime observer of the city's powerful people (including eight years as a society columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times, and four years here at Michigan Avenue), my circle of friends in this city goes far and wide. As a result, I find stories everywhere. Through my membership in the Economic Club, where the city's 1,000-plus business leaders meet each quarter; during a work out at the East Bank Club, where Chicago's heavy- hitters sweat out their differences; while serving some of my favorite nonprofits, like Gateway Green and the Apparel Industry Board. No mat- ter where I am, I've always got a notebook for jotting down a late-night story idea, something to follow up on in the light of day. While I'm at it, here's another con- fession: I rarely get a story from a Follow me on Twitter at @SusannaNegovan and at michiganavemag.com press release. It's the reason most of what you read in Michigan Avenue won't be found in other city publications. I cultivate sources like any editor should, but mine are sometimes found at unexpected places, like a charity luncheon or a runway show. In my world, exactly the right places. You may notice a familiar last name as a byline on this issue's cover story. It was written by my husband, a real journalist; irreverant and old- school. And before you say a word, read his piece. You'll be calling me brilliant by the end. ABOVE: With the city's big-three party planners—Paramount's Jodi Fyfe, Entertaining Company's Wendy Pashman, and A Perfect Event's Debi Lilly. RIGHT: Two of my favorite ladies in the biz, WGN morning-show producer Tyra Martin and the mayor's press secretary, Tarrah Cooper. On the roof of City Hall, where we shot Mayor Rahm Emanuel for the cover—it was a particularly chilly February day, but unlike the mayor, I was lucky enough to be swaddled in a coat and scarf.
