"OUR EVENTS HAVE RANGED FROM UNDERWATER TEA PARTIES TO GRAVEYARDS WITH SMOKE MACHINES TO VINTAGE FABULOUS." — SOPHIE PARROTT 68 AUSTINWAY.COM PHOTOGRAPHY BY KELLY WENDT (ABSINTHE PICNIC,); WATERLOO STUDIO/LISA HAUSE (TEA CUP AND SAUCER); MACON LEIPER (GOORIN BROS); ARNOLD WELLS (PORTRAIT); FLASHPOOL PRODUCTIONS (MERMAIDS) VINTAGE TO A TEA WHIMSICAL SOPHIE PARROTT OF THE MARVELOUS VINTAGE TEA COMPANY EMBRACES HER ROLE WITH FLASHBACK STYLE. BY SAMANTHA REICHSTEIN "On my way! I'm in green mermaid pants, and my hair is pink." This is the kind of text you receive when you're en route to meet with Sophie Parrott, founder, creator, and self proclaimed "TEA.E.O" of Austin's Marvelous Vintage Tea Party Company, which takes events back to a different era, complete with costumes and (deceptively strong) tea-inspired cocktails. The British native has become the face of her com- pany, her performance background evident as she and her team take party-goers back in time. DREAM TO REALITY: "I wrote down pages of everything I love and gradually cut it down to seven: friends, tea, cake, Champagne, production, vintage, and parties. I realized my experience could really put a modern twist on the idea." SIGNATURE STYLE: Parrott and her 15 theatrically trained staffers—TeaMates—wear vintage black dresses that they customize to reflect the era or theme they're celebrating. POPULAR PARTIES: The 1920s and 1940s, but anything is possible. "Our events have ranged from underwater tea parties to graveyards with smoke machines to vintage fabulous." MARVELOUS TEAS[E]: Parrott's pun-filled line of fair-trade, organic bespoke teas will soon hit the retail market. marveloustea.com . Tea fantasies: With her Marvelous Vintage Tea Company, Sophie Parrott (INSET) creates fantastical worlds, including (CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT) an absinthe Halloween picnic; a vintage anniversary soiree for the Goorin Bros. hat store; and a mermaid party; deceptively strong drinks are served via dainty vintage cups and saucers.
