MAKE.EAT.DRINK This unique pop-up dinner experience— a collaboration between artists and chefs—benefits Big Medium, the nonprofit dedicated to supporting and promoting contemporary art in Texas. Big Medium produces the East Austin Studio Tour (November 12–13 and 19–20), the West Austin Studio Tour, and the Texas Biennial, and presents innovative exhibitions throughout the year in its gallery at Canopy. Children's book writer Jon Scieszka will emcee the evening, which keeps the book festival free for all as well as supports the festival's yearlong literacy and library programs. BLACK FRET BLACK BALL The third annual event by nonprofit Black Fret will give away generous grants to Austin musicians, bringing the total given so far to half a million dollars. The night will feature performances by many of this year's grant nominees. Black Fret supports musicians through its annual memberships, which provide access to private, curated concerts as well as the Black Ball. When: December 1, 6 PM Where: The Paramount Theatre, 713 Congress Ave. Contact: sustain@blackfret.org 122 AUSTINWAY.COM PHOTOGRAPHY BY BEN PORTER INVITED BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS ICE BALL 2016 Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas kicked off Austin's fall gala season with Ice Ball 2016 as more than 750 guests gathered at the Hyatt Regency to celebrate and raise funds in support of the life-changing mentoring relationships that the organization provides for children in the greater Austin area. Ice Ball cocktails were flowing as attendees bid on silent auction items, participated in the Kendra Scott mystery box giveaway, and Gayle Stallings auctioned off exciting packages. The event raised more than $500,000 for the nonprofit. .
