A therapist will lead the guest down a corridor sentried by Kwan Yin statues at both ends, with walls upholstered in a creamy, light taupe color. Eight tented roof vestibules lead to eight pavilion-like suites with pitched roofs upholstered in fuchsia silk, and silk walls with hand-embroidered dragonflies floating over them. "You walk into an oval room that has a hand-knotted wool floor in light camel and olive green," notes Beale. "The walls are covered in a light tobacco color, embossed with espresso-colored leather banded with bronze strips." A motorized chaise lounge is set on one side of the room, in which teak replaces rosewood, with a vanity mirror "floating" in front of an irregularly stacked bronze glass wall on the other side. The faucet han- dles are made from rock crystal, and the drawers have hidden glides that allow them to close with the lightest touch. Hand-hewn onyx lines the walls behind the hand-molded tub, while the walls of the wet treat- ment area are made of warm, white Calacatta d'Oro marble imported from Italy. "We try to hand-select it so we can get as much gold as we possibly can," Beale explains. "Some veins have more grayish, brown- ish color, and some come with more of the golden color. We're always looking for that golden color." Beale sees a visit to the Spa at Encore Macau as an "extraordinary journey," from the tactile walls in the lobby to the programmable col- ored lighting and music that make the Kohler showers a more sensory experience. "From the moment you step off the spa elevator, you are in the spa environment," he says. "It's the same quality level as the rest of the hotel, yet it's a completely different environment.
