CONTRIBUTORS 2 1 3 4 1. Amy Zavatto writes about wine, spirits and food for Wynn, Imbibe, Every Day With Rachael Ray, Edible Manhattan and many others. Author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Bartending, Eat NY, and coauthor of The Renaissance Guide to Wine & Food Pairing with Tony DiDio, Zavatto holds an advanced certificate in wines and spirits from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust in London. She has given talks on wine and food pairing around the country, and has toured distilleries everywhere from Kentucky to Jalisco to the Highlands of Scotland. She lives, eats and drinks in New York City. "I have visited dozens and dozens of wineries around the world," says Zavatto, "and every time I am awed at the intense, incredible effort—from vine to vat—that goes into crafting the amazing elixirs that we take so much instant pleasure from." For this issue she explored the world of design-focused wine labels in "Label Allure" (page 116). "This story really showed me the labor of love that must go into how a wine looks not just in your glass, but in the bottle, too. Wine truly is art, from the inside out." 2. For this issue of Wynn, New York-based photographer Darryl Patterson shot the couture items in our A-List ("Dazzling by Design," page 28). Patterson has been shooting fashion and still lifes for 19 years, and knows quality when he sees it. "I enjoy working on Wynn," he says, "because I get to shoot such unique and well-crafted prod- ucts." In addition to his work for clients such as Christian Dior, Harper's Bazaar, Versace, Sephora and Samsung, Patterson takes his passion for photography with him wherever he goes. Whether it's traveling, surfing, or fishing, he's always thinking of his next image. 18 WYNN 3. Born in Taiwan and raised in New York, Chiun-Kai Shih fi rst nurtured his photographic talents at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. He spent two decades working with Condé Nast China as a photographer and con- tributing US editor, and his photos have been featured in international edi- tions of GQ, Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, as well as Details, the Chicago Sun-Times, The New Yorker and Vibe. Shih also cohosted and directed a series of behind-the-scenes videos for GQ and Vogue. For this issue of Wynn, his prodigious talents are on display in two fashion stories. "The theme for me is sexiness and glamour," he says. "Tryst is very classy and sexy, with all these red and mirrors all over. I think it's the perfect setting for this story." For "Suite Sensations" (page 78), says Shih, "We were going for something more cinematic and romantic. The challenge is to create ten- sion and emotion with the models, and I like the result very much." 4. Brooklyn-born journalist Michael Mayo has spent 22 years at the South Florida Sun Sentinel as a golf writer, sports columnist and general news columnist. He has also contributed to Sports Illustrated, GolfWorld and Golf Magazine. Besides covering hundreds of sporting events—including four Olympics and 13 Masters Tournaments—he covered the aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001 in New York and has witnessed two executions. "For this issue I really had it tough," Mayo says. "I had to play 18 holes of golf and endure two-and-a-half hours of pampering at the most gorgeous spa I've ever seen ("Path to Nirvana," page 44). Sure beats chas- ing hurricanes." Mayo has played the Wynn Golf Club numerous times, but still marvels over Steve Wynn and Tom Fazio's extreme makeover of the old Desert Inn course ("To a Tee," page 66). "You really have to play it to believe it," Mayo says. "Somehow, they've brought North Carolina to the Strip." ■
