T he Guide EAT, DRINK, SHOP, AND UNWIND THE VERY BEST OF imbibe: mezcal and tequila bars relax: spa getaways play: paddleboarding once upon a tea time PHOTOGRAPHY BY CONNIE MILLER L'ESPALIER VENTURES BEYOND THE TRADITIONAL AND LAUNCHES BOSTON'S NEWEST AND MOST LUXURIOUS TEA PARTIES. BY JANICE O'LEARY L ast year L'Espalier hired tea sommelier Cynthia Gold and became one of the few restaurants in the country to staff such an expert. Every weekend, Gold creates a Fantasy Tea service with one of her custom blends, such as the Boylston Breakfast Blend or the Gloucester Street Blend. For the pastries, the petits fours, and those yummy little sandwiches that often accompany the tea, guests can choose from a menu of themes; options include Little Red Riding Hood's Basket, The Goose That Laid the Golden Egg, and more. On Sundays, Gold crafts tea tastings featuring five teas and a menu all inspired by a theme. Full tea service is also available during the week by appointment—a singular offering in the city. On Mother's Day she'll present an homage to mom with a special tasting and menus.
