TOWN KIND OF HIS Golf superstar Luke Donald may have British roots, but his heart and home are firmly in Chicago. The 34-year-old UK native ended up at Northwestern University instead, where he found a coach (Pat Goss, who is still with him today), a girl- friend (Diane, who is now his wife and mother of their two daughters), and a golf game strong enough to propel him to number one in the world for 55 weeks (at press time Donald ranks third behind Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods). Just as important, he found a home, settling with his family in the northern suburbs of Chicago, which provides a haven from his travels as one of the world's premier sportsmen. Here, as Donald prepared to welcome his Ryder Cup teammates from Europe for the inter- national competition's first visit to Illinois, Chicago-born performer, sometime guest host on The Tonight Show, and accomplished golfer in his own right Tom Dreesen interviews Donald exclusively for Michigan Avenue about life in the Windy City, his passion for food and wine, and how father- hood makes life on the links a whole lot more manageable.
