PHOTOGRAPHY BY BLAINE SIESSER (FREHSÉE); LAURIE PEACOCK (PONCE) ...WITHOUT WHOM THIS ISSUE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE OCTOBER 2012 Jeff Sciortino Credentials: Jeff Sciortino is a Chicago- based photographer specializing in portraiture. His work has appeared in People, ESPN, Rolling Stone, and more. Behind the story: Although he is not an avid golfer, Sciortino felt like a pro on the links after shooting with Luke Donald ["His Kind of Town," page 96]. "I sure learned the lingo from Luke, and I definitely got a bigger grin from him saying 'eagle' rather than 'birdie.' I also got a great grilling lesson in his amazing outdoor space." Chicago loves: "Logan Square is a great neighborhood with a great vibe, and I always go to Bella Notte Ristorante. I travel all over the world, but I always love coming home." Tom Dreesen Credentials: Tom Dreesen has made more than 500 appearances on national television as a stand-up comedian, including more than 60 appearances on The Tonight Show. A regular in the main showrooms in Las Vegas, Tom toured the nation for 13 years as the opening act for Frank Sinatra. He is co-author of the book Tim & Tom: An American Comedy in Black and White. Behind the story: "Even though he's from London and I'm from Illinois, Luke Donald ["His Kind of Town," page 96] loves Chicago for all the same reasons I do." Chicago Nicole Frehsée Credentials: Loves: "It's the greatest walking city in America, but the bottom line are the people." Nicole Frehsée studied at the University of Michigan and earned her master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. A former assistant editor at Rolling Stone, she has also had work appear in O, The Oprah Magazine; Maxim; Budget Travel; Spin; and more. Behind the story: "As a die-hard music fan, it was really cool to talk to Sugar Blue ["Movers and Shakers," page 108], who played the killer harmonica riff on the Rolling Stones' 'Miss You.' I also enjoyed chatting with Stanley Paul, who regaled me with tales of playing the Pump Room in its heyday, when he'd party all night in his Ambassador East Hotel suite with Bette Davis and Frank Sinatra." Chicago loves: "The lake—I'm a total water person, and just looking at it as I drive down Lake Shore makes me happy." 22 MICHIGANAVEMAG.COM Maria Ponce Credentials: Fashion and commercial portrait photographer Maria Ponce has been shooting since 2002. You might recognize her work for Atelier Azza, Gibsons Restaurant Group, Saks Fifth Avenue, or the Joffrey Ballet. Behind the story: "It is rare that you get to shoot such a diverse group of men ["Movers and Shakers," page 108]—all of whom are at the top of their fields—who happen to be dressed so wonderfully." Chicago loves: "Chicago offers the best in food, fashion, music, art, and sports, and it is all accessible to anyone who takes an interest. We are not a pretentious city, so it's a fun place to live."
