DOUBLE VISION HIP EYEWEAR BRAND WARBY PA ER OPENS ITS FIRST AUSTIN RETAIL STORES ON SOCO AND AT DOMAIN NORTHSIDE. BY ANDREA GUZMAN No, you're not seeing things. Hip eyeglass purveyor Warby Parker has opened not one but two brick-and-mortar stores in Austin—one on trendy South Congress Avenue, the other at the new Domain Northside. In keeping with the brand's socially conscious roots (for every pair of glasses sold, a pair is donated), Warby Parker has part- nered with local nonprofit Austin Bat Cave (ABC), which offers free writing instruction to children and teenagers across the city. Warby Parker's South Congress shop carved out space for a dedicated writing center to be used by the ABC, which each year publishes an anthol- ogy of its students' work (the books are on sale at the store). The sleek new boutique is designed to look like a library, making for an authentic collabora- tion. Says ABC's outgoing Executive Director Katie Haab: "It feels like a very wonderful romance." Both new stores feature a photo booth, a bonus exclusive to Austin. The city has been an ideal partner for Warby Parker's quirky aesthetic since its retail trailer (the Class Trip Bus) came to town in 2014, says co-CEO Dave Gilboa. "[We] knew then that we'd be missing out if we didn't set up shop more perma- nently in this unique city," he adds. 1317 S.
