BY HANNAH SHIH The best-selling classical solo artist of all time, Italian singer Andrea Bocelli has enchanted international audiences, from popes to presi- dents. The 58-year-old tenor chose Austin as one of seven stops in a special concert series featuring arias, crossover hits, and selections from his 15th studio album, Cinema, which includes songs from legend- ary films. Austin Way spoke with the famous tenor about the show, which will feature duets with special guest Katharine McPhee. ON CINEMA : After studying classic film songs, he built his own interpretation of each "so as to not betray the songs, but to restore their freshness through new orchestrations." TRANSLATION: Bocelli, who freely shifts between five languages, gravitates toward the one that has the "different expressive nuances and musicality" that fits the arrangement of a particular song. DREAM DUET: "Katharine McPhee is an extraordinary and eclectic talent, a force of nature with exceptional vocal and acting skills," he says.
