FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF With Nathalie Carpenter, regional marketing manager for Audi of America, swooning over the looks at Boston Common's Daniela Corte fashion show at the Revere Hotel's Space 57. ABOVE: With Jeet Singh—Redstar Ventures cofounder, The Singhs' lead singer, and subject of this issue's Talent Patrol—at ARTcetera, for which Boston Common was a proud media sponsor. LEFT: Russian Standard Vodka's Incredible Pursuits contest winner Amanda Curtis and I strike a pose. I'm convinced some people on this earth are born to sparkle. They have talent, they have drive, but they also have a way. A frisky smile, a game-on strut— something that says, "I have dreams, and wow, we're going to have fun making them come true." I love those people. They make me feel alive. When I walked into a shoot to meet Amanda Curtis, the winner of the Russian Standard Vodka Incredible Pursuits contest in partnership with Niche Media (Boston Common's parent company), she was kneeling on the floor, posing for the camera with a blinding twinkle in her eye. She was one of those people. At the age of 3, the Lynn native says she regularly dressed up in wedding gowns at her aunt's Newbury Street wedding boutique (Aunt Paulette would discover the tyke head-to-toe in tulle, modeling in the front window display). From then on it was fashion, fashion, fashion. After working for designers Diane von Furstenberg Follow me on Facebook at and Richie Rich, Amanda struck out Facebook.com/boston-common on her own with 19th Amendment, and on bostoncommon-magazine.com. an e-commerce platform for emerging fashion designers, including herself. Her prize package from Russian Standard Vodka includes $10,000 toward her start-up and mentoring sessions with me. I am thrilled to start as the Editor-in-Chief of Boston Common, a title fiercely committed to celebrating our city's big thinkers. You'll meet many in this issue: Redstar rocker Jeet Singh, wine keg king David Gordon, and Red Sox supernova David Ortiz, to name a few—and I look forward to helping Amanda chase her dream. Her business idea won the contest. Her sparkle is turning heads. PHOTOGRAPHY BY MICHAEL BLANCHARD (SINGH); ERIC LEVIN (RUSSIAN STANDARD); PAUL MAROTTA (VARVATOS). CLOTHING AT BOSTON COMMON FASHION SHOW BY DANIELA CORTE; MAKEUP BY TAVI DE LA ROSA It was an enormous honor to meet the one and only John Varvatos, who graciously hosted a reception at his new Copley Place boutique and a special VIP dinner in the North End.
