ON THE TOWN FRESH FARE When: A bright, sunny afternoon. Where: A prime patio table with riverfront views at Piccolo Sogno Due. 340 N. Clark St., 312-822-0077; piccolosognodue.com What: Branzino (Mediterranean sea bass and fennel); mare (prawns, calamari, octopus, clams, mussels, fennel, citrus, and arugula); and plenty of Prosecco. CLOCKWISE FROM FAR LEFT: Val Warner and Erica Strama talk Chicago fashion over lunch at Piccolo Sogno Due; the dining room buzzes with midday business diners; the mare boasts a variety of seafood. What's in Store FROM FOOD TO FASHION, STYLE SETTERS ERICA STRAMA AND VAL WARNER DISH ON WHAT THEY'RE MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS FALL. BY MEG MATHIS PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANTHONY TAHLIER A s the senior marketing manager of The Shops at North Bridge and the cohost of ABC-TV's Windy City Live, respectively, Erica Strama and Val Warner are known as two of Chicago's most fashionable women. They're also dear friends who first bonded at North Bridge ("I've been shopping at Nordstrom, no joke, since I was eight years old," says Warner) and regularly consult each other on their sartorial choices. Over lunch at Piccolo Sogno Due, we caught up with Strama and Warner to talk style, success, and helping others stay fabulous. Fashion-wise, what are you most excited about for fall? Erica Strama: Fall is about a feeling. It's the first time you put on a pair of jeans, your boots.... Val Warner: [To Erica] Tell me what the trends are. ES: Plaids are really big; houndstooth is really big. 94 VW: I really like bringing out my grays, taupes, and burgundies. ES: Grays are very big. Strategic layering can make you look really stylish. [Sipping Prosecco] I'm such a fan of the original Piccolo Sogno. When I came in just now, I saw chef [and owner] Tony Priolo, and I saw the owner Ciro Longobardo, and I'm like, "I know you guys." This is a place that I can sneak away to at lunchtime—or happy hour. Speaking of places you can sneak away to, tell us about Eataly. ES: It's a food and wine artisanal emporium. It's more than 60,000 square feet; it's the second one in the US. It's going to have fresh produce and food, wine classes, cooking classes, a Birreria—which is craft beer.... It truly is going to transform that area and attract not only the locals like me who are like, I don't have time to cook, but tourists are going to go crazy. I'm really going to have to speed up my mall walking when that opens. continued on page 96 MICHIGANAVEMAG.COM 094-096_MA_SC_OTT_Sept_13.indd 94 8/7/13 2:37 PM
