SPIRIT OF GENEROSITY FROM TOP: Guests of the 2012 "Bagpipes & Bonfire"; a prairie in Lake Forest Open Lands' Everett Farm Preserve. "We drove out and looked at this beautiful education center that was way better than ours at the time," she says. The property, however, was billed as an oak savanna but had been farmland just two years earlier. "We were speechless," says Jamee. "It's going to be beautiful in a hundred years, but the 'oak savanna' [was] just astonishing. We all got in the car, and I said, 'Are we lucky to have the age of our trees [in Lake Forest].'" The Fields also maintain a primary residence on Jupiter Island, Florida, during the winter months, but Lake Forest Open Lands Association is always on Jamee's mind. "[Marshall is] much more global," she says of her husband, who is actively involved in World Wildlife Fund. "I'm local. He thinks about tigers in Indonesia, and I think about Lake County." And as Lake Forest Open Lands Association continues to grow, Jamee is optimistic about the city's land restoration. "There comes a point when [Lake Forest will be] the perfect little jewel of urban wilderness." MA 066-071_MA_SC_SpiritofGen_Sept_13.indd 70 8/7/13 3:11 PM
