...WITHOUT WHOM THIS ISSUE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE SEPTEMBER 2013 Jeff Schear Credentials: Jeff Schear has been an event contributor to Michigan Avenue since the magazine's first-ever cover party with Cindy Crawford in 2008. His photography has also been seen in Condé Nast Traveler, Town & Country, Vanity Fair, Vogue, and more. Behind the story: "Over the course of Ashore Thing ["Invited," page 37], I took about 2,300 photographs. The setting made for a visual feast." Inspiration: "Photography has the incredible ability to help us to see the world from a different perspective." Favorite view of Chicago: "As a kid visiting the city, my first glimpse of Chicago in all its grandeur was from the John Hancock Observatory looking west at sunset." Bunky Cushing Credentials: Bunky Cushing is a social arbiter Roberta Naas who has made a life's work out of chronicling the mores of fashion and society. He is a popular man-about-town and has been a supporter of The Howard Brown Health Center and the Jane Addams Senior Caucus. Behind the story: "I've never been shy about expressing my opinions about fashion ["Makeup on Your Collar," page 160] to my female friends, so I'm thrilled to be able to share them with the entire readership of Michigan Avenue!" Chicago loves: "The architecture, skyline, neighborhoods, lakefront, and friendliness of Chicagoans and visitors inspires me to make the most of our incredible city every day." Credentials: Roberta Naas has nearly 30 years of experience in the watch industry and is the founder and editor-in-chief of atimelyperspective.com. In addition to being timepiece editor at Niche Media, Naas—the first female watch editor in the United States— has also contributed to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and more. Behind the story: "I've known mother-of-pearl dials ["Pearls of Style," page 110] are among the most difficult to make, but researching this gave me even more insight into the types of shells used in luxury watch dials and where those shells hail from. There is always something new to learn about timepieces and their making." Inspiration: "A convergence of all aspects of my life: the desire to be full, complete, good; the desire to be one with nature, one with love, and one with time." Jason McDonald Credentials: A native of Montgomery, Alabama, Jason McDonald has photographed for Allure, Elle, Love, and Pop magazines. McDonald has toured with The Strokes, and he also shot last year's advertising campaign for the New York Knicks. Behind the story: "Chicago is such a perfect city in the summertime; it's clean and beautiful, and at night it becomes so romantic. The Langham Hotel ["A Fresh Coat," page 122] was perfect for our fashion shoot—it brought an elevated chicness to the story." Inspiration: "Photographers get the great opportunity to meet new people every shoot and learn a little about each of them." 34 MICHIGANAVEMAG.COM 034_MA_FOB_Contribs_Sept_13.indd 34 8/7/13 3:19 PM
