FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF With Anna Kimball, regional marketing director for Moet Hennessy, at the lovely Louis Vuitton boutique during the 30th anniversary of the Food & Wine Classic. At Aspen Fashion Week 2012 I introduced a panel of change makers—fashion designers whose businesses were built With philanthropic visionary Leonard Lauder and Alexandra Halperin at the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation event at the Maroon Creek Club. upon social entrepreneurship. Moderated by Aspen Institute Executive Vice President Elliot Gerson, the participants included our cover star Lauren Bush Lauren, who cofounded the FEED Foundation and FEED Projects LLC, and is fighting to end world hunger. Her prescient vision has helped feed 60 million children around the world. These are the stories I get most excited to chronicle in the pages of Aspen Peak. The panel was a reminder of how fortunate we are to live in and visit Aspen. Certainly, we are a town that relishes its playful nature; we have a ski consciousness, but at the heart of our community is a fierce social conscience, too. Fortunately for me, my job is to give you the inside track on both. I also recently had the honor of meeting Leonard Lauder, chairman emeritus of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., at an Aspen event for the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation, of which he is cochairman. His leadership in philanthropy is authentic, and gracious mavericks such as Lauder are catalysts for real change. Facebook at facebook.com/ aspenpeak.magazine. As host to countless rock legends, its stage has also been a platform for town's top fundraisers. With this issue we celebrate his lens-eye view of the club's storied past. ABOVE: Publisher Alexandra Halperin and I take a break from Classic seminars with celebrity chef José Andrés. RIGHT: With General Wesley Clark during the thought- provoking Aspen Renewable Energy Day conference. But perhaps what makes Aspen truly unique is what is available to us on any given single day: fresh tracks on Highland Bowl, an alfresco lunch with friends at the Ajax Tavern, philanthropic events that educate and inspire, and, of course, legendary nightlife, which more often than not includes an iconic act gracing the intimate Belly Up stage. No wonder I can't seem to find any reason to live elsewhere. Enjoy the issue! ERIN LENTZ 32 ASPENPEAK-MAGAZINE.COM
