"There aren't that many parts of that town that we don't ride in," she says. "You can make a route any- where in Summerlin. You can make it easy or make it challenging. There's not a lot of flat land but steady ascents and descents. The difficulty is what you make of it." The social aspect is a plus, too. Caterbone's group does a monthly Cake Ride to celebrate any members whose birthdays fall within that month. Riders can use websites such as Strava.com or a Garmin GPS cycle computer to map their routes and figure out how they are doing competitively. On Strava, riders who travel the same route can add their times to the site to determine who is King or Queen of the Mountain; that designation goes to the person atop the leaderboard. "Before Strava, we were dependent on a computer on the bicycle," says Kam, who rides on an amateur team, Monster Media Powered by MRI Nutrition, with seven national champions in Southern California.
