BOUCHRA JARRAR B ouchra Jarrar showed her ready-to-wear collection during Couture Week, and it is fitting due to her attention to detail and quality. A former assistant to Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga who has launched her own line, Bouchra truly shines with her precision and clarity. The Spring/ Summer 2013 collection shown in July included some amazing pieces, from the incredible little jacket to the peplum bustier to the perfect pants and skirts. She is a designer whose progress we are excited to follow. SUMMER SOLSTICE A s musicians from Rush Hour Concerts' Make Music Chicago performed in the courtyard outside our store, we hosted a dinner for Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, with additional musi- cians performing inside. Bursting at the seams with guests including Nick Cave, Chris Peters, Shane Gabier of Creatures of the Wind, and many oth- ers, our café served the crowd a delicious meal, including one of the best salmon dishes Drew Elliott of Paper Magazine claimed he's ever had. Everybody had a great time celebrating our 10-year anniversary of carry- ing Proenza Schouler's line at our store. fter we met the French concert pianist duo Katia and Marielle Labèque in Chicago, where they loved our store and the food at our café, they treated us to a magical night in Paris. There, they guided us through their multiple apartments in a 16th-century building near the Centre Georges Pompidou. Marielle cooked an amazing dinner with a salad of fresh vege- tables, salt-encrusted sea bass as our entrée, Berthillon ice cream, and fresh mint tea for our after-dinner drink—all of our favorites. But the real treat came at almost 2 AM, when Katia and Marielle performed Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and several other pieces for us. We were deeply moved by LABÈQUE SISTERS A the whole evening.
