BY ALLISON PIWOWARSKI A fter gracing Chicago with the cozy pub English, the wood-filled barbecue joint Barn & Co., and the library-inspired small-plates spot Hubbard Inn, restaurateur team Adolfo Garcia, Daniel Alonso, and David Mitria have turned their attention towards the Iberian peninsula. With their new venture, Black Bull, they are serving up tradi- tional tapas from various regions in Spain. To ensure the menu is nothing short of authentic, the team brought in old friend Luis Contreras, an up- and-coming Spanish chef, who set up shop in Chicago for a few months to assist corporate chef Bob Zrenner in crafting dishes like piquillo peppers stuffed with salt cod, croquetas with ham, bacon, chicken, or oxtail, and jamón ibérico with manchego cheese and bread. Hand-painted tiles imported from Granada, reclaimed wood, and a playlist of Spanish tunes set the vibe for the space. And no visit to Spain would be complete without a pitcher of sangria. Served in hand-blown pitchers, the nectarous cocktail comes in red, white, and sparkling ver- sions. 1721 W.
