...WITHOUT WHOM THIS ISSUE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE SEPTEMBER 2012 beverly poppe Beverly Poppe regularly shoots our "So Many Dinners" column, which this issue highlights Marché Bacchus. Her work has also appeared in GQ and Better Homes and Gardens. What do you enjoy about shooting "So Many Dinners"? Chefs are very passionate about their food and are artists themselves. I'm always inspired by how much they truly care about each dish. Where do you eat out the most? My favorite sushi joint is Sushi Wa in Henderson. I love their baked rolls. What is your favorite dish at Marché Bacchus? I 've never had anything I didn't like. The bread pudding and steak tartare are out of sight. lisa arcella L isa Arcella is an entertainment, lifestyle, and travel writer and editor for several magazines and is currently working on a biography of Don Ho. For us, she profiled Rose McKinney-James. How did you like Rose McKinney-James? S he is simply a lovely, easy-going, patient, humble, funny person, which was completely unexpected in such a powerful woman. What are your favorite charities? A few issues ryan reason Na ago, I wrote about Clean the World, and I have since become involved. I can officially thank Vegas magazine for turning me into a better citizen! Las Vegas has a lot to teach the rest of the country about being green. tive Las Vegan Ryan Reason (ryanreason.com), who shot our "Dressing Room Confidential" feature, discovered his love of photography at age 10 and is now a photographer and studio manager at Studio West Photography. You shot behind-the-scenes of three famous Vegas shows for us. Which was your favorite? I love Jubilee! and the way that show holds true to the authentically Vegas traditions of showgirls, extravagant costum- ing, and large-scale productions. It was a thrill for me to go backstage and see all the inner workings. That show is a Las Vegas icon in itself. How foreign is the idea of having a personal dresser to you? I have been dressing myself for years, but never turn down help when offered. My closet is a proud collection of 50-plus T-shirts, and each one is carefully chosen to represent the message I wish to deliver to the world each day. 32 VEGASMAGAZINE.COM marco della cava Marco della Cava covers popular culture for USA Today and wrote our cover story on Celine Dion. You've interviewed Celine many times before. Each time she has been unfailingly herself: frank, confessional, and unencumbered by the expectations of others. The only pressure that Celine feels comes from Celine. What's it like to see her perform? Perhaps even more thrilling are her intense rehearsals. Her tremendous work ethic is no doubt as huge a factor in her success as her natural vocal gift. Did she seem excited to come back to Vegas? Las Vegas would appear to have no more staunch a supporter than Celine Dion. PHOTOGRAPHY BY JENNIFER MAUPIN (REASON); JACK GRUBER (DELLA CAVA)
