PHOTOGRAPHY BY ISAAC BREKKEN/WIREIMAGE (ROWLAND); RYAN SHEWCHUK (TROTTER); STEVEN LAWTON/WIREIMAGE (YUROCKO); JEFF GALE (DOG) FROM THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Our Summer issue star, Kelly Rowland, posed with her cover before hitting the stage for an amazing performance. Before this beautiful shelter dog was adopted by a loving family, I posed with him backstage at The Animal Foundation's annual Best in Show at The Orleans. I've written many times about my addiction to shows and how much I love that part of life near the Strip. But of all the musicals, concerts, and spectacles I've seen, none have felt so quintessentially Vegas as seeing Celine Dion live on-stage at the Colosseum. I wasn't yet living here when she descended on Las Vegas for her pioneering first run. Admittedly, I was as confused as everyone else as to why this was so important, why I kept reading about the staggering deal far away from where I was living, in New York City. But it wasn't long after I moved here that I saw the impact that her residency had on Strip entertainment. Who else remembers A New Day's Follow me on Twitter at @abbytegnelia and on vegasmagazine.com. pre-show welcome? A camera tore around the theater, throwing fans into fits as their faces appeared on the big screen in front of the (always) packed house. The anticipation was palpable; Celine was about to grace the stage, and the cameras showed up-close how the rapt fans wore sheer joy and nervous giddiness on their faces. And then the lights went down, the energy built, and Celine glided onto the stage. ABOVE: Assistant editor Emma Trotter and I toasted the VIPs on "The List" in our Summer issue at Hyde. RIGHT: Jessica Yurocko and I celebrated Vegas's nine years at The Cosmopolitan's Boulevard Pool. Celine is a visionary who truly shaped the future of live shows on the Strip, and our cover story digs right into how it all happened, her home life here in town, and the exciting projects she has in the works. This is one of the covers that makes me think, If this is the last cover I ever do, I'd be happy. But with the line-up we have coming to Vegas, in part because of Celine's contributions, I'm not going anywhere just yet. See you at the Colosseum, ABBY TEGNELIA 28 VEGASMAGAZINE.COM
