PHOTOGRAPHY BY AL POWERS/POWERS IMAGERY (LOPEZ); ISAAC BREKKEN/WIREIMAGE (ROWLAND); STEVEN LAWTON/WIREIMAGE (TEGNELIA); RYAN SHEWCHUK (DANILOVIC) FROM THE PUBLISHER The Cosmopolitan's chief marketing officer, Lisa Marchese, Summer issue cover star Kelly Rowland, and I hit the red carpet at Vegas's ninth anniversary bash. At Planet Hollywood, I attended a Warner Bros' cocktail party hosted by Extra's Mario Lopez. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. In publisher-speak, our covers are our eyes—a well- art-directed cover lures in and engages our readers. In our world of connecting, captivating, and celebrating the elevated lifestyles of our community, a Vegas magazine cover model needs to exemplify these attributes to the fullest but also be dedicated to Las Vegas. Well, cherished readers, I believe that with the esteemed Celine Dion, our incredible September cover star, we nailed it! Follow me on Twitter at @josefvann and on vegasmagazine.com. Elevated? Celine has sold more than 200 million albums worldwide. She is the best-selling Canadian artist of all time, one of the top five best-selling female artists in the US, and her 1995 album D'eux is the best-selling French-language album of all time. But despite all of that international acclaim, Las Vegas proudly claims Celine as one of our own. ABOVE: SBE's VP of operations, Mio Danilovic, and me at Hyde in celebration of "The List" in the Summer issue. LEFT: Editor-in- chief Abby Tegnelia and I took the stage at The Cosmopolitan's Boulevard Pool to introduce Rowland's performance and thank the crowd for nine amazing years of Vegas. I often say that Las Vegas is about consumption, and the "consump- tion" of Celine Dion is staggering: Celine's "new" show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, which premiered in March 2011, hit its 100th show on Sunday, August 12. She has sold out nearly every performance, equating to an estimated half a million people having seen the show. Her first show here, A New Day, played for five years to nearly 3 million people over a run of 717 shows. Celine Dion, Las Vegas loves you. Vegas loves you. JOSEF VANN 30 VEGASMAGAZINE.COM
