Superlatives welz kauffman corner office RAVINIA'S SUMMER SEASON. by lisa barr A "CULTURAL OMNIVORE" TAKES THE LAWN VIEW ON P leasing everyone is the impossible goal, but that won't stop Ravinia president and CEO Welz Kauffman from pulling all the right strings to make it happen. Kauffman is closing in on his lofty ambition to offer a vastly diverse lineup during the summer- long music festival, which runs from June 7 to September 9—and a season built around strings may be just the ticket: think Esperanza Spalding on bass, Steve Martin on banjo, Pinchas Zukerman on violin, and Jake Shimabukuro on ukulele, plus appearances by Glen Campbell, Colbie Caillat, and Gavin DeGraw. "This sea- son's lineup is emblematic of what we're all about," Kauffman says, "with every kind of musi- cal genre for every taste—from James Taylor to Midori to Train."
