D enise Hajjar celebrates 30 years of being a Boston fashion designer with a brandnew boutique and studio adjacent to the InterContinental Hotel on Atlantic Avenue. She officially moved from her 270-square-foot spot at the Copley Plaza to the 950-square-foot location on the waterfront this summer. In addition to carrying her popular ready-towear dresses, leather jackets, bustiers, and skirts, Hajjar plans to design made-to-order pieces for select clients. Hajjar has embarked on another new venture that complements her custom formalwear—competitive ballroom dancing. She designs her own costumes, of course. This fall, she expects to see many of her regular customers as well as new ones dancing at galas in the hotel's ballroom in some of her elegant gowns. Hajjar likes to pair eveningwear with an edgier piece and a glamorous accessory, such as this multicolored tweed —DENISE HAJJAR and Plexiglas pochette clutch from Chanel's fall collection. "Tweed is really hot again," she says. "It can be worn so many different ways, dressy or not dressy." She'd pair this clutch with jeans and a T-shirt for a casual weekend look. For daytime, she'd wear it with one of her own great pencil skirts and her ruffledcollar red leather jacket. "Or go glamorous with it," as the main accessory to complement a ball gown. "What I love about this bag is that if a tweed garment is too much for a woman's taste, a tweed accessory can make her outfit pop." Like Hajjar herself, it's the perfect combination of heritage and cutting-edge style.
