STYLE SETTER a shore thing HYANNIS BOUTIQUE OWNER SARAH FLAHERTY SETS A SASSY STYLE FOR CAPE COD ESCAPES. BY JULIET IZON PHOTOGRAPHY BY DAN CUTRONA B arnstable-raised Sarah Flaherty had a keen eye for edgy fashion even as a teenager. "I had my prom dress altered so that it cut down to my belly button, and it was completely backless," Flaherty recalls. "It was a fabulous dress. But I was edited out of our school's prom video. And they made really strict guidelines on prom wear after that," she adds with a laugh. While customers won't find that infamous dress at Flaherty's jewel box of a boutique, Sass on Main, in Hyannis, they'll certainly walk out much more chic than when they arrived. The store, which Flaherty opened two years ago to fill a need for stylish outfitters in town, features clothing for women and men as well as jewelry by nearby designers. "I'd love to sell all local stuff if I could," Flaherty says. "There just aren't enough designers to choose from yet." But the local pieces she does have roll off the shelves. 76 BOSTONCOMMON-MAGAZINE.COM 076-077_BC_SS_StyleSetter_SUM13.indd 76 6/7/13 1:12 PM
