IT WAS A HOMECOMING OF SORTS for The Frye Company when it opened a new store on Newbury Street this spring. The leather goods company was started in Marlborough by John A. Frye in 1863, making sturdy shoes for factory workers. Now Frye has opened a 9,000-square-foot store in the former Charley's Eating & Drinking Saloon. The wildly popular brand's chic boots, sexy high heels, and leather accessories are showcased in custom wooden cabinetry and metal shelves. Dark wood floors in the new store are broken up by vintage carpets and low tables offering some of the season's most coveted styles, including the Erin Oxford, the Melissa Perf Bootie with laser cutouts, and our favorite sandal, the Samantha Seam, with antiqued silver and brass rivets lining the inside of the nearly five-inch heel. 284 Newbury St., 617-247-3793; thefryecompany.com Deborah studded short boot, The Frye Company ($498).
