This is a great time to be a Bostonian, and not just because the weather is finally magnificent here. April 15 had long loomed as a tax deadline; now it will be remembered as a day of tragedy for Bostonians, but, more important, as one of unity. We were all horrified by the bombings—especially the fact that they took place along the route of the Marathon, an event that's almost sacred here—and heartbroken over the injuries and the four who lost their lives. But I've been heartened by the response. Milwaukee, we've felt the country reach out to us, even as we've reached out to each other and raised millions of dollars to support those who sustained injuries and loss. Every issue of Boston Common is a love letter to New England as we celebrate the best this region has to offer, from great thinkers and leaders to the artists, culinary geniuses, and big hearts of our philanthropists. But this issue specifically goes out with love to the injured, the heroes, the nurses, and the physicians—all of those who felt the tremors of the day and transformed them into acts of valor and selflessness.
