50  BOSTONCOMMON-MAGAZINE.COM PHOTOGRAPHY BY JENNIFER BAKOS (DRINKS) Rocks 'n' roll (from top): Mobile bar truck Hive allows New England to take its seasonal cocktail parties outside; custom drinks menus have included a spiked rosemary lemonade, classic Negroni, and Monterey Mule. It all started in Jamaica Plain, just a simple conversation between neighbors. Lance Davis was a tad bored with his job in the wine business; Graham McKissock, a general contractor, was experiencing his own brand of blasé. Both agreed: They needed a new adventure. Enter Hive, a swanky mobile bar truck and event service. "I'd never seen a truck that served alcohol, so I thought that'd be a cool angle," says Davis. "It really was the start of something new, so we jumped in head first." With two customized Airstream trailers in their fleet, Davis and McKissock are leading the mobile cocktail crusade in New England, serving up innovative drinks and events specialized for every season. "We did a luau birthday one snowy afternoon in January with heat lamps all around," Davis says. "There is a possibility to do anything, despite the weather." This holiday season, the Hive crew is whipping up a festive herbal concoction called the Brown Derby—rye, grape- fruit juice, agave nectar, bitters, sage—as one of their specialty cocktails. With a fully stocked bar—spirits, wine, craft beer, tools and equipment—Hive sources New England's local products with a farm-to-table flair: celery-infused gin, walnut-trimmed bourbon, and more. While the trucks feature an indoor lounge and expert mixologists, Hive also provides tricked- up tents for glamping or cocktail hopping. Very neighborly—just like Davis and McKissock themselves. hive-events.com . HAIL HIVE! A NEW MOBILE BAR TRUCK LETS YOU TAKE YOUR NEXT COCKTAIL PARTY TO GO.
