Look no further than MGM Grand's new Topgolf Las Vegas, a 105,000- square-foot linksman's paradise built on the grounds of the old Tropicana Golf Course. With its 108 climate- controlled hitting bays, five bars, two cabana-flanked swimming pools, and built-in concert space, the four-level venue—the franchise's largest flagship yet—is a serious upgrade on the course of the 1960s. Still, says Topgolf Director of Construction Dominic Crespo, "With Topgolf Las Vegas, the intent was to pay homage to vintage Vegas." Guests will discover clever tributes to Vegas's colorful past dotting the property, including a restored midcentury golf cart. "We created replications of the Riviera's old light fixtures (the originals are no longer code-compliant). And we have some old Riviera bar pieces in our Riv Bar." Along with multiple bars, the space tees up shareable small plates (kalbi short rib tacos, yellowtail sashimi), artisanal burgers, and craft cocktails—all solid distractions for visitors who aren't exactly gunning to be the next Mickelson or Woods. Yet Crespo disputes the notion that enjoying Topgolf's high-tech target-based games, which combine aspects of traditional golf, bowling, and darts, requires even a modicum of athletic finesse.
