PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOE DURKIN FROM THE PUBLISHER There is no more electrifying time in Las Vegas than New Year's Eve, when our neon-lit town is connected, captivating, and most certainly celebrated, frenetic with the energy of 300,000 tourists in town to kiss another year goodbye—literally. Fifty one weeks out of the year, Las Vegas attracts gamers, conventioneers, thrill-seekers, luxury enthusiasts, food and wine aficionados, and generally speaking, conspicuous consumers. But this one week during New Year's Eve celebrations, Las Vegas comes to life with a buzzing level of energy that is difficult to understand until it envelops you, as people are landing in the middle of the desert with only one thing on their minds: celebrating one unforgettable, confetti-laden night of fun and fireworks. After a year that saw the likes of Celine Dion and Carrie Underwood grace the covers of Vegas, I know I'll be ready to pop some Champagne. December 31 and the days surrounding it offer plenty of entertain- ment for revelers, including concerts by Pitbull, Kelly Rowland, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, and our hometown heroes, The Killers, to name a few—all in a four-mile radius! Follow me on Twitter at @josefvann and on vegasmagazine.com. Leading up to that fiery end of 2012, the month of December here sees a country explosion with the debut of our beloved December cover star Shania Twain at the Abby Tegnelia and I hit the red carpet with our October cover star, Carrie-Anne Moss of CBS's Vegas, who graciously hosted Vegas magazine's annual Men's Event. ABOVE: I posed with Moroccanoil's Stella Leo, who presented a bonus check to The Animal Foundation at our Dinner for the Dogs event. LEFT: I showed off Moss's cover at our party at Venetian. Colosseum and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's limited-run residency at Venetian, as well as the American Country Awards and the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, which brings in big business to cap off the year. Don't forget to check out the famed Zappos.com Rock 'n' Roll Vegas Marathon December 2 and Wynn Las Vegas's landmark World of Art Showcase December 20-22, both showstopping and highly anticipated events. As we usher in 2013 with a major bang, the dice keep rolling in our favor as the phenomenal International Consumer Electronics Show will attract 150,000 early adopters when it hits January 8-11, informing us all about the new must-have tech toys we can look forward to. One final thought on my last publisher's letter of 2012. I'm honored and lucky to be surrounded by such talented people who comprise the local Vegas magazine team: Abby Tegnelia, our esteemed and very talented, smart editor-in-chief; Emma Trotter, our assistant editor; Kelli Maruca, vice president of marketing who conceptualizes and activates more than 40 events per year, comprises our digital and social strategy, and keeps our brand in check; her coordinator Remmington McKenney; the sales team of Tiffany Carey, Jessica Zivkovitch, Vince Durocher, and Kacie Turpenen; and last but certainly not least, my assistant, Rue McBride, who has an uncanny instinct that helps our wonderful magazine flow every day of the week. Here's to you, team Vegas, for making 2012 so fabulous! Happy New Year; onward and upward in 2013. JOSEF VANN 32 VEGASMAGAZINE.COM
