PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANT FARM TIME HONORED starry nights T DURING THE HOLIDAYS, VEGAS WOMEN MATCH THE HEAVENS FOR BRILLIANCE WITH DIAMOND-COVERED WATCHES. BY ROBERTA NAAS his season diamonds adorn the wrist with shimmering effects that are reminiscent of this grand city's bright lights and the fabulous firmament above. "Las Vegas women love to sparkle," says Marc Hruschka, president and CEO of Chopard USA, "especially around the holidays." Creating such resplendent timepieces is not a simple task: Cutting diamonds for watch settings utilizes a different approach than cutting for jewelry. Additionally there are a host of different settings that can be used to create the magnificent patterns and rhythms on watch dials—many of which are extremely time consuming. What's more, the fact that one gem-setter spends countless hours placing the diamonds precisely by hand makes these brilliant beauties an even more entrancing addition to the splendor of the season. The exceptional Symbol watch from Chanel ($33,800, Via Bellagio, 702- 765-5505; chanel.com) is crafted in 18k white gold and is loaded with both diamonds and history: The case is set with 60 diamonds, while the black dial is set with 19 in a star configuration. The slender satin strap is finished with a buckle set with 80 additional diamonds. The series, Mademoiselle Privé, is in homage to the inspirations of Coco Chanel herself, as the leg- endary brand's fine-jewelry line celebrates its 80-year anniversary. For wintery white, Montblanc's Star Pluie d'Etoiles watch ($49,370, The Shoppes at the Palazzo, 702-696-0185; montblanc.com) shines in 18k white gold. The case is set with 80 baguette-cut diamonds, and 218 Top Wesselton diamonds adorn the mother-of-pearl dial. Roger Dubuis's Excalibur 36 watch series includes this knockout that features 628 brilliant-cut diamonds, meticulously set on the dial, case, and lugs for a total weight of approximately 4.79 carats. The watch ($71,300, Roman Times, The Forum Shops at Caesars, 702-733-8687; rogerdubuis.com) houses a mechanical movement, RD821, that consists of 172 individual components and is entirely developed, handmade, and assembled at the brand's storied Geneva ateliers. A regal beauty, the Chopard Xtravaganza is crafted in 18k white gold and set with 189 diamonds, weighing 7 carats, set in a starry sky pattern. "These timepieces are popular favorites with our discerning Vegas clien- tele," Hruschka says, "who appreciate the allure of sophisticated style with just a hint of dazzle." The watch ($92,740, Wynn Las Vegas, 702-770- 3469; chopard.com) is even water-resistant to 50 meters, and features an alligator strap and unique diamond-set lugs. V 104 VEGASMAGAZINE.COM
