PHOTOGRAPHY BY YASMINA CHAVEZ (PETERSON); TAGHI NADERZAD (RAPKIN) NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE NOVEMBER 2012 ...WITHOUT WHOM THIS ISSUE WOULD andrew eccles Award-winning photographer Andrew Eccles has been shooting celebrities for 25 years. For us, he captured cover star Megan Hilty's exuberant stage persona. Tell us about the photo shoot. I loved working with Megan. She was sweet, funny, and energetic—a complete breath of fresh air. What do you think of Smash? It's a great show. I'm a pretty big Broadway fan. What was your inspiration for the shoot? My lighting for some of the shots was inspired by Bert Stern's pictures of Marilyn Monroe. I wanted the images to have a pinup vibe but still reflect Megan's personality. Thoughts on Vegas? There's nothing like it anywhere. bryan hainer L ongtime Las Vegas resident and photogra- pher Bryan Hainer shot one of the three Thanks giving stories in "Spirit of Generosity." How did you get involved with Gobble Gobble Give? Through organizer Adan Van Dam. Not having a good meal on Thanksgiving is like not having a date on Valentine's Day, so I wanted to help give that experience to some who might not otherwise expect it. What are your own Thanksgiving tradi- tions? as Vegas Weekly staff writer Kristen Peterson moved to town from Minneapolis in 1993 and, she says, "fell in love with the desert." Peterson has covered our thriving arts community at the Weekly and Sun since 1998; for Vegas, she interviewed actor Richard Grieco about his Void of Emotion painting and upcoming exhibit at the Wyland Galleries. kristen peterson L What do you like about Richard Grieco as an artist? It's interesting to see someone working in a throwback, Jackson Pollock style. I'm a big fan of conceptual art, but I appreciate all styles and movements, including the Barbizon School. What's the inside scoop on where to see great art in town? My favorites are Contemporary Arts Center, Pop Up Art House, Trifecta Gallery, Michele C. Quinn Fine Art Advisory, Cosmo's P3 Studio, Marjorie Barrick Museum, and the rotating large-scale installations at the Clark County Government Center. 26 VEGASMAGAZINE.COM I spend time with friends over a good meal. Many people in Las Vegas are transient and don't have family here—another reason to get involved with Gobble Gobble Give. mickey rapkin Last month's Universal Studios film Pitch Perfect was adapted from a book by Mickey Rapkin, who wrote our cover story on Smash's Megan Hilty. His work has appeared in The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, and Details. Are you a Smash devotee? I've never missed an episode. The soundtrack has often gotten me past mile five on the treadmill. How did you enjoy talking with Megan? S he's lovely. It's hard to believe that massive voice comes out of such a tiny woman! Ever get a Vegas craving yourself? I've been twice—both times for bachelor parties. I'm not much of a gambler though. I'm too cheap.
