Superlatives PEOPLE, CULTURE, STYLE POWER STRIP green machines W hen Byron Georgiou and his wife, Dr. Thérèse Collins, were choosing where to relocate after California, they focused squarely on Las Vegas. "We both liked Nevada, and the business opportunities are enormous," says Georgiou, who moved here in November 2005. "It's a place with a great entrepreneur- ial spirit and lots of opportunity if you're energetic and innovative." Luckily, Georgiou is both. When not working, the 64-year-old has to be full of energy in order to keep up with his three daughters, all under the age of four. And he has innovation well covered as lead investor at Xtreme Green Products, a North Las Vegas–based venture that manufactures the most extensive fleet of specialty all-electric vehicles in the world. "We're at the cutting edge of a unique, green, clean-energy technology," says Georgiou, who served on the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission as the appointee of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid during the economic and housing crises. "The future is in electric transportation for a whole variety of reasons." Georgiou is especially excited for his latest collection of cutting-edge products, which debuts this fall.
