BINARY BEAUTY The Portuguese Sidérale Scafusia ($750,000) from IWC must be special- ordered and takes about a year to build, but it is well worth the wait. The company's most complex watch to date was 10 years in development and is a masterpiece of haute horology. The watch combines sidereal time with solar, or standard, time. Sidereal time is four minutes shorter than an average solar day; it measures the time it takes the earth to complete a rotation around its polar axis. The difference is displayed on the watch's reverse side (SHOWN ABOVE). Also on the reverse side is a celestial chart custom-made for the buyer's location, as well as sunrise and sunset times. The front of the watch (SHOWN LEFT) offers a view of the constant-force tourbillon (an escapement that compensates for errors in timekeeping due to the effects of gravity). This stunner is offered with either a platinum or red-gold case. The Palazzo, 702-650-0817; iwc.com VEGASMAGAZINE.COM 105
