PHOTOGRAPHY BY KOLBY KNIGHT FASHION AS FATE IN BOSTON'S SPRING STYLE, PHOTOGRAPHER SEES THE UNKNOWN. Stacking the deck: "I want to personify the tarot card into a fashion look with its own personality," says fast-rising fashion photographer and native New Englander Kolby Knight of his latest project blending fate and fortune with beauty and finesse. When Boston-based photographer Kolby Knight embarked on a project to visualize tarot cards through a high-fash- ion lens, his head swirled with images of glitter, jewels, florals, and crowns. Fashion is based upon fantasy, he reckoned; the esoteric is founded in mystery. What better card to reveal itself than one that combines both? "The idea was to personify the tarot card into a fashion look with its own personality," says Knight, 21. It was precisely the type of endeavor for which Knight entered the field of photography: "I classify my work as clean, sharp, modern, and [with] a dash of whimsy," he says. Knight, a native of northern Maine who regularly works in LA, New York, and Miami, is Boston's latest creative star, with his work appear- ing in glossy magazines like Vogue Italia, Tatler, and, of course, Boston Common. "My style has developed by watching others, by taking methods and tricks I like and putting my own spin on it," he says. This spring, keep your eyes out for Knight pounding the Boston pavement looking for mysterious—even fortuitous—style inspira- tions. Call it fate. kolbyknight.com; @kolbyknight .
